About Fempower Dance Co: Our Story & Mission

Fempower Dance Co was born out of a love for dance and a desire to create a space where women and femmes could move their bodies in ways that felt empowering, sensual, and fun, without the pressure of competition or comparison. As someone who’s been dancing since childhood, I found myself longing for a space where I could embrace my womanhood and connect with others without feeling judged or out of place. What started as a single Friday night heels class in 2022 has blossomed into a full-time studio with over 20 classes, all thanks to the incredible community that’s grown around us.

In the early days, it was just me and a group of passionate students looking for something different—a place where we could move for ourselves, have fun, and build real connections. We weren’t focused on performances or impressing anyone. It was about stepping into our power and owning our bodies in an inclusive, supportive environment. After a few twists, turns, and trials at the beginning of 2024, we managed to turn an empty warehouse into a beautiful, welcoming home, thanks to the hard work of 40 amazing volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got to work over one March weekend. What started as a bare-bones space soon transformed into a vibrant studio filled with energy, laughter, and a sense of belonging. Every brushstroke of paint and every mirror hung is a reflection of the passion and dedication that defines our community. It’s a space built by and for women and femmes, where every student, instructor, and volunteer has left their mark.

At Fempower, we focus on more than just dance. We build confidence, encourage growth, and foster a sense of belonging. We proudly cater to women and femmes over 18, offering classes in heels, sneakers, jazz, pole, and more. We’ve even kept our Friday night tradition alive—where we dance, then hit the town or gather at a volunteer’s home for dinner and drinks, reinforcing our strong sense of community.

One thing that sets us apart is the freedom we offer our students to express their sensuality on their own terms. There’s no pressure to perform, and absolutely no judgment. It’s just you and the mirror. Whether you want to be front and center in our videos or prefer to keep your moves private, your journey is entirely yours. Our goal is to help you reconnect with your body and embrace your femininity in whatever way feels right for you.

We’ve been incredibly lucky to have instructors who have been with Fempower since day one, bringing their passion, creativity, and dedication to the studio. They’ve helped build this community, and I’m so proud of the impact we’ve made together. But the real magic comes from our students, many of whom have been with us from the very start. They’ve made Fempower what it is today: a space of empowerment, inclusivity, and friendship.
